Bulgarian Institute
for Management
and Technology
Goal
Development of a state-of-the-art laboratory, equipped with latest and multi-core processor PCs and tools, provided as a one-time donation by Intel Corporation.
Short-term vision: the Center becomes an advanced focal point for academic, research and business know-how exchange in the field of parallel computing.
Long-term vision: the Center supports a growing community of experts to enhance training and innovation in the field at a national level, so that the Center becomes a highly skilled competitive partner for solving parallel architecture and programming issues
The goal is to provide a deep understanding of the fundamental principles and engineering tradeoffs involved in designing modern parallel computers (aka "multiprocessors" and "multicore"), as well as the programming techniques to effectively utilized these machines. Parallel machines are already ubiquitous from desktops to supercomputers, and the expectation is that they will become even more commonplace in the future. However, very few people exploit the potential processing power of these machines because they do not understand how to write efficient parallel programs
